Sr. Jane Awuor Superor General, SSJ

Building a generation guided by faith, integrity, and a commitment to holistic human development.

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa was founded in Bura in 1929 and was apostolically erected in 1938. This followed a formal application by Bishop John Heffernan, who was the Vicar Apostolic of the then Vicariate of Zanzibar.

Over the years, education has become one of our principal ministries. We invest heavily in academic and professional formation to ensure we are well prepared to respond to the changing needs of society and the Church.

We run and support schools in collaboration with government and parishes, offering quality, holistic education. Through continuous learning and partnerships, we empower both our sisters and students, believing firmly that knowledge is power and education transforms lives.

Our Mission

To witness Christ to the world in simplicity, prayer, and service to God through His people by engaging in varied apostolates that enhance holistic human development. Guided by God’s Spirit, we follow the patronage of St. Joseph and the footsteps of our founders.

Our Vision

To become signs of God’s tender love and living witness of Christ.
