St. Joseph Pre and Primary School – Maungu is a nurturing center of learning established by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Mombasa. Rooted in faith, academic excellence, and strong moral values, we are dedicated to shaping confident, disciplined, and well-rounded learners.
With a growing community of over 160 learners, we provide a supportive and inclusive environment where every child is valued, guided, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Resilience in Growth
Early Days and Challenges
The school officially opened its doors in 2020 with just one pupil. However, shortly after, the outbreak of COVID-19 led to the closure of all schools, temporarily pausing our initial progress.
When learning resumed in January 2021, the school welcomed five pupils. The number gradually grew to seven, and has steadily continued to rise as we serve more families in the region.
Despite this progress, the school faced significant challenges. The surrounding community, being in a dry area with limited economic capacity, found it difficult to fully support the school’s rapid growth and development.
A Turning Point
At a critical moment, hope came through the long-standing partnership with the Herman Marx Foundation, led by Stephan Haven.
Their timely support led to the construction of four new classrooms—greatly improving the learning environment and opening a new chapter of growth and possibility for the school.
Growth and Gratitude
Today, St. Joseph Pre and Primary School has grown into a vibrant learning community with over 160 learners, and the number continues to rise.
The Sisters, learners, and parents remain deeply grateful for the support received over the years. Special appreciation goes to Stephan Haven and his team for their generosity.
