Our History - St. Joseph Herman Marx Schools
Our Roots & Journey

The History of Our School

The story of St. Joseph Herman Marx Pre-Primary, Primary & Junior School began in 1989, when the then General Superior and her council resolved to establish a school at Mtopanga.

A Foundation of Generosity

The land, originally belonging to the Catholic Diocese of Mombasa, was generously granted to the Sisters of St. Joseph by the then Bishop of Mombasa, Bishop Nicodemus Kirima, for the purpose of building a learning institution.

Fulfilling a Noble Vision

During this period, the Sisters connected with Joseph Herman Marx, who visited Kenya in 1989 and pledged to mobilize his friends in Germany to support construction. Following his sudden passing just days before his planned return, his close friend Stephan Hafen and the Herman Marx Foundation took up the responsibility to successfully realize the dream.
