History of Star of the Sea Montessori Nursery School
Established in 1974, Star of the Sea Montessori Nursery School has built a rich, decades-long tradition of providing premier early childhood education in Kizingo, Mombasa.
Originally known as Star of the Sea Kindergarten, the school was founded within the Star of the Sea Primary School compound to deliver essential preliminary education. From its inception, the curriculum was intentionally anchored on three key pillars: developing foundational writing skills, instilling strong moral values, and supporting holistic child growth.
A historic milestone occurred on 13th June 1977, when administrative management was officially transferred from the Sisters of Our Lady of Africa to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Mombasa. This significant transition was personally executed by Sister Raquel Ortega and Sister Florentina Ngii, beginning a new chapter of dedicated leadership.
What began as a modest single-floor facility has expanded structurally and educationally. To accommodate soaring community enrollment, the Sisters of St. Joseph constructed a second floor. Originally an all-girls school across all tiers, the nursery adapted to local demand by opening its doors to boys, cementing its role as a foundational cornerstone for families throughout Mvita Sub-County.
